The EU launches the Intelligent Cities Challenge (deadline extension)

Given the difficult situation that European countries are currently facing with the spread of COVID-19, the deadline for the submission of Expressions of Interest from the ICC has been extended until May 29, 2020. Consequently, the deadline for shortlisting applications is extended until May 18, 2020, and we have added new webinar dates. The situation will continue to be monitored and any additional updates will be communicated on their page Web.

The European Commission announced the challenge on February 27 Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC). With this action it aims to help promote green, climate-neutral and sustainable growth in 100 EU cities to improve the quality of life of their citizens.

In the EU, 72% of citizens live in urban areas and the ecosystems of urban areas have a significant potential impact on the required reduction of net zero emissions.

Each beneficiary city will receive advice from regional specialists, tailored to the city's main problems, whether mobility, green manufacturing, energy or other local priorities. This will be followed with exchange meetings between cities to hear other experiences; compare the performance of the actions taken receive specific training.

The ICC is a 2.5-year plan that builds on the successful program Digital Cities Challenge (DCC), which involved 41 cities creating a vision, strategy and roadmap for their own digital revolution.

The call will be by competitive attendance and will be open until April 6.
